The project began as the revamp of an existing summerhouse dating back to the 1940s. However, due to building regulations stipulating that the footprint remain unchanged, the house was rebuilt entirely.
Although the site sits within a residential neighbourhood, privacy was crucial. This was achieved by placing the garage at the street-facing front of the house, with a path leading alongside the garage to the home.
Tall shrubbery borders the site, creating a boundary between the neighbouring homes.
A long, narrow hallway runs along the length of the house, leading to the master bedroom suite and the children’s bedrooms.
Central to the plan is the integrated kitchen, dining and lounge area, which opens out to a west-facing patio.
To the north, a spiral staircase leading up to the library, home office and outdoor terrace creates a sculptural focal point.

“I believe, we live under some kind of law of resonance. Buildings, rooms, furniture, lighting – these all have an effect on us. Our surroundings should not only reflect the way we want to feel, but should affect us in every aspect of our daily life.”
Jonas Lindvall was educated as an interior architect in Gothenburg, Sweden and studied furniture design at the Royal College of Art in London and architecture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen. Upon completing his studies he returned to his hometown, Malmö, where he opened his own office.
As an architect, Jonas has created villas, hotels, restaurants and more recently, church interiors. As a designer, Lindvall’s portfolio is equally diverse, ranging from furniture and lighting, to kitchens and bathrooms.
An exponent of traditional craftsmanship, Jonas Lindvall creates new classics that reflect a spirit of modernity, whilst maintaining a profound respect for skills and techniques of the past. This is a theme that is inherent throughout his work, and comes from a tireless curiosity and a passion for history.
