This house has a very convincing architectural composition with a comfortable scale. The spaces are oriented towards the central pool which relates to the garden of the neighbouring colonial bungalow.
One is able to appreciate from the lawn the dialogue between the different tectonic pieces such as the low block and grand vertical space. The components of the architecture are skilfully sited such that the carporch, entrance space and central pool are defined.
SIA SINGAPORE INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECT
RT+Q Architects
Since its founding in 2003, RT+Q has remained committed to the notion of architecture as a form of plastic sculptural art. The search for form is a preoccupation of the design approach. Distinct forms, pure shapes and clear lines form the basis of the RT+Q design language.
RT+Q has done numerous projects, built and unbuilt. Works range from individual houses, condominiums, resorts, offices and commercial buildings to masterplanning projects. While the smaller projects offer insights into aspects of material and detailing, the larger ones provide opportunities to probe issues of scale and form. The office continues to develop a style of architecture that is abstract yet rooted in the canons of classicism. RT+Q’s approach to design often arises from a counter-intuitive response to site and programme.
